Ireland is the third largest island in Europe and lies in the west of the island group known as the British Isles. The Republic of Ireland, covers five sixth of the Island of Ireland it is now one of the major economies of Europe and is a popular tourist destination with Hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation available all over the island. The capital of the Republic of Ireland is Dublin which is located on the eastern side of Ireland and offers a very fine range of hotels and bed and breakfast places. Ireland is divided into 26 counties which in turn are grouped into four main regions – Leinster, Munster, Connaught and Ulster which roughly correspond to the four cardinal points. The population of the Republic of Ireland is around 4,500,000. Most of the population live in the major cities, especially Dublin, which is home to 1,700,000 people. Ireland has a mild but changeable climate and this has created its famous green landscape. The western side of Ireland is remote and rugged and has stunningly beautiful mountains and scenery. The Irish language is still very much alive in the west and Irish road signs and Irish place names abound. There are many places to visit. As well as fine cities such as Dublin and Cork, there are many castles, historic house, ancient monuments and natural features to be explored. Ireland can provide the best night life in Dublin to quite rural retreats where time seems to have stood still for centuries. It has something for everyone whether you stay in city hotels or a rural bed and breakfast. The currency of Ireland is the Euro which is used in most countries of Europe now.
